β οΈ SCAM ALERT
Scams doing the rounds right now
- "Your parcel is on hold" texts. Fake delivery messages with a link. Australia Post and couriers won't ask you to pay by text link.
- "Hi Mum, I've lost my phone" messages. A scammer pretends to be your child on a new number. Always call their old number to check.
- Calls from "your bank" or "the NBN". Hang up and call back using the number on your card or bill. Never let a caller onto your computer.
TechGuy's three golden rules
- 1Stop. Don't rush. Real organisations will wait.
- 2Never share passwords or codes sent to your phone.
- 3Check by calling a number you already know.
Think you've been scammed? Call your bank straight away, then call TechGuy on 0409 124 843 for help with the next steps.
Prefer to talk to a real person?

Help with your kids' screen time
Not sure how to set limits on the family iPad, the kids' phones or the games console? TechGuy will set it up with you, explain it in plain English, and make sure you know how to change it later.
What TechGuy can set up
- iPhone & iPad: Apple Screen Time and Family Sharing (downtime, app limits, "Ask to Buy")
- Android phones & tablets: Google Family Link
- Windows PCs & Xbox: Microsoft Family Safety
- Nintendo Switch & PlayStation: the Nintendo parental controls app and PlayStation family settings
- Home Wi-Fi: router controls such as bedtime "pause" and blocking adult websites
- Age-appropriate settings: app store age ratings, YouTube Kids, safe search and privacy settings
Australia's social media minimum age
Since 10 December 2025, age-restricted social media platforms must take reasonable steps to stop Australians under 16 from creating or keeping an account. eSafety lists Facebook, Instagram, Kick, Reddit, Snapchat, Threads, TikTok, Twitch, X and YouTube among them. The list can change.
There are no penalties for children or parents. The responsibility sits with the platforms. Most standalone messaging and gaming apps (such as WhatsApp, Messenger and Roblox) and YouTube Kids are not currently age-restricted. That doesn't make them automatically safe, so parental controls still matter.

Common questions
Is Ask TechGuy really free?
Yes. The online helper is free for everyone. You only pay if you'd like a real person to call, video call or connect remotely.
Is the online helper a real person?
No. Ask TechGuy is a computer helper (AI) trained to give simple, careful advice. If it can't help, or the problem involves money or your bank, it will point you to a real person.
Will you ever ask for my passwords or bank details?
Never. If anyone claiming to be TechGuy asks for your passwords, PINs or codes, hang up. It isn't us.
Can my son or daughter book for me?
Absolutely. Family members can call or text to arrange help, and are welcome to join the session by phone or video.
Do you do home visits?
Not at the moment. All help is by phone, video call or remote session, so you can get help anywhere in Australia without waiting for anyone to arrive.
Can you help me set up parental controls for my kids or grandkids?
Yes. The Family screen-time setup session (by phone, video or remote) covers iPhones and iPads (Screen Time), Android (Google Family Link), Windows and Xbox (Microsoft Family Safety), Nintendo Switch, PlayStation and your home Wi-Fi. TechGuy can also explain Australia's under-16 social media rules. See Help with your kids' screen time.
Do you have discounts for pensioners?
Just ask when you call or text. Alex is happy to talk about what suits your budget.
